Join us on Thursday, Jan. 9 for our weekly community-oriented fun run with 5K/10K options for all levels of runners at 6 p.m., followed by pizza from Savory Cuisines Catering and cold beverages. After the run, we’ll welcome Boulder exercise scientist and sports nutritionist Sakiko Minagawa, MS, RDN, who will speak about Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports (RED-S). It’s a topic also known as the Female Athlete Triad, a syndrome in which disordered eating (or low energy availability), amenorrhoea/oligomenorrhoea and decreased bone mineral density (osteoporosis and osteopenia) are present.
Minagawa is a 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier who has an undergraduate degree in exercise science and a master’s in allied medicine. She’s a registered dietitian nutritionist who moved to Boulder in 2019 and opened Peak Performance Sports Nutrition, LLC to help athletes of all levels optimize nutrition for health and sports performance.
