Tyler McCandless

Boulder’s Tyler McCandless placed 2nd at the California International Marathon in 2017 (which doubled as the U.S. championships) in a new PR of 2:12:28 and won the 2018 Bolder Boulder 10K citizen’s race in 30:54. Those breakthroughs should make the 32-year-old NCAR scientist a contender at the U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in Atlanta in February 2020. He credits the improvement to being coached by Boulder’s Steve Jones and learning how to race. “The marathon will teach you humility,” he says. “Always take the opportunity to find the positives, and use that inspiration to fuel the work necessary, giving yourself the best chance to achieve your goal the next time around.” (Photo: Courtesy of the Bolder Boulder)
