Thurs Night Fun Run + Running and Pregnancy Talk
January 23 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us for our weekly community-oriented fun run with 5K/10K options for all levels of runners at 6 p.m., followed by pizza from Savory Cuisines Catering and cold beverages. After the talk, Boulder physical therapist Kristin Carpenter, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, will give an engaging talk about Running and Pregnancy.
Among the questions she’ll address in her talk include: Is it safe for me to run during and after pregnancy? What signs do I need to look for to know if I should continue to run while pregnant? What problems are common with running during and after pregnancy? What can I add to my typical running routine to reduce the risk of developing these problems? How do I know I am ready to return to running after baby?
In 2019, evidence-based guidelines were published that provide women more clear direction regarding safe and effective exercise during pregnancy and how/when to safely return to running post-partum while reducing the risk for common issues such as urinary incontinence and pelvic pain.
Kristin Carpenter is a Fellowship-trained Doctor of Physical Therapy and co-founder of Mend, a physical therapy practice in Boulder that focuses on problem solving and evidence-based treatment of musculoskeletal problems. Through her own running experience during and after pregnancy, Kristin developed an interest in helping women stay active during pregnancy and return to running safely following childbirth.
